Prime Minister Hun Manet Meets with JETRO Vice President to Discuss Investment and Green Technology

Phnom Penh, August 6, 2024 – On the afternoon of August 6, 2024, the Spokesperson of the Prime Minister issued a press release detailing the outcome of a significant meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Mio Kawada, Vice President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The meeting, held at the Peace Palace, underscored the strengthening ties and investment interests between Cambodia and Japan.

Ms. Mio Kawada, Vice President of JETRO, commended the Royal Government of Cambodia for its efforts to enhance the investment climate within the country. She highlighted that this visit marked the second business mission organized by JETRO in Cambodia, bringing along 19 Japanese companies eager to explore investment opportunities. The focus of these companies spans various sectors, with a notable interest in green technology and carbon credit initiatives utilizing advanced Japanese technology.

Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his appreciation for the sustained interest shown by Japanese companies in Cambodia's investment landscape. He emphasized his support for the Japanese companies' focus on clean energy and carbon credits, aligning with the Royal Government's policy to ensure sustainable development. The government aims to promote clean energy, targeting a 70% adoption rate by 2030.

To facilitate further collaboration, Prime Minister Hun Manet proposed the formation of a dedicated working group. This group, comprising representatives from relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions, would coordinate with JETRO and the visiting Japanese companies to discuss and advance initiatives in green technology and carbon credits.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to fostering a robust partnership and exploring innovative avenues for sustainable investment, positioning Cambodia as a promising destination for future Japanese investments.
